Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
Set in the heart of Hwange National Park, Somalisa Camp is tucked beneath an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain, and has breathtaking views of the savannah plains of the famous Kennedy Vlei line. The camp has been completely rebuilt (September 2015) and now encompasses a larger Main Area with separate reception, dining and lounge areas all built on split-level decking and incorporating a plunge pool on the elevated deck overlooking the Elephant drinking pool and waterhole. There are 7 modern Sail Tents with sliding gauze doors built on raised decking and overlooking the Kennedy vlei-line; and each tent includes a glass wood burner fire place, an overhead fan, and en-suite bathroom facilities with a flush toilet, indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a vintage bathtub.
There is separate Elephant Drinking Pool with an extended drinking trough and the camp overlooks a waterhole frequented by a variety of species including large herds of Elephant, Buffalo and Plains Game Species, as well as a variety of predators.
Activities include guided walks led by passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives, bird watching, and evening spot lighting.
In addition, after the first rains, the Kennedy Vlei is scattered with flamboyant colors from the seasonal wildflowers that emerge during this time of year – making it one of the prettiest areas in Hwange National Park.
